Canon Community Goes To Paroki Bongsari:
OMK (Catholic Youth Organization) of Bongsari Parish, in collaboration with Canon Indonesia, successfully held an event at the Grha Argya Ballroom of the Church of Santa Theresia of Bongsari Parish on Sunday, March 9, 2025. The event, themed Finding God Through the Lens, was attended by around 70 participants aged 10 to 70. They came from various parishes in Semarang and outside the city of Semarang. This phenomenon shows high enthusiasm for the world of photography and how this art can be a means of reflecting faith.
Finding God Through Photography
Since 08.00 in the morning, participants have gathered enthusiastically to dive deeper into the world of photography. This event presents two professional speakers, Misbachul Munir and Angelie Ivone, who shared their knowledge and experience in photography.
Misbachul Munir discusses basic photography techniques, from understanding lighting and composition to the correct camera settings to capture quality images. Meanwhile, Angelie Ivone guides participants in understanding photography to capture the beauty and presence of God in everyday life.
Through the concept of Finding God Through the Lens, participants are invited to see that every moment, the beauty of nature, and human expression are reflections of God’s love that can be captured through a camera. Both children and elderly participants found new perspectives in observing the world through a camera lens.
From Theory to Practice: Capturing Moments with Meaning
In addition to the theory session, participants were invited to practice the techniques they had learned directly. In this session, they were given photography challenges that emphasized technical aspects and encouraged them to capture images with spiritual meaning. Interestingly, the various generations present at this event provided unique perspectives in capturing moments. Children tried to capture the world with their joy, young people emphasized artistic expression, while more senior participants took many pictures that reflected their life experiences and spirituality.
Support from Canon Indonesia and Datascript
As the main organizers, Canon Indonesia and Datascript also presented various photographic devices that participants could try directly. They also provided insight into the latest camera technology developments and how to utilize available features to support optimal photo results.
Reflection and Hope for the Future
The event, which lasted until 4:00 p.m., was closed with a question-and-answer session and the awarding of certificates to participants. Many expressed their gratitude for the learning opportunity and hoped that similar events could be held again.
It is hoped that the Church community will be better able to document every important moment in church life. More than just technical skills, Finding God Through the Lens reflects that photography can be a powerful means of evangelization and communication of faith.
