Fr. Bagus Laksana Appointed Provincial of the Indonesian Province

On the feast of the Annunciation, March 25, 2026, Father General Arturo Sosa appointed Fr Albertus Bagus Laksana as the next Provincial of the Indonesian Province of the Society of Jesus.

Born in 1972, Fr Bagus entered the Society of Jesus in 1992. He was ordained a priest in 2003. He did his tertianship from February 1 to August 15, 2014, at St. Stanislaus College in Girisonta under the instruction of P. Josephus Darminta, SJ, and made his final vows in February 2016.

After completing his licentiate degree at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology (2005), he pursued doctoral studies in Comparative Theology at Boston College from 2005 to 2011. He was also a Visiting Scholar and Postdoctoral Fellow at Loyola Marymount University in California (2011-2012), establishing himself as a specialist in interfaith and comparative theological discourse.

In 2022, Fr. Bagus Laksana was appointed President of Sanata Dharma University, a Jesuit higher education institution in Yogyakarta. In this role, he continues to lead the university in its commitment to academic excellence, grounded in the Jesuit tradition of service to humanity and steadfast in its commitment to social justice.

Fr Bagus will assume his new role as Provincial on 27 July 2026.
