On Friday, December 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM, Father Franciscus Xaverius Arko Sudiono, S.J., passed away at the age of 69 at Wisma Emmaus in Girisonta, Central Java. He was born on July 28, 1956, in Yogyakarta to the late Mr. Saja Wongsorejo and Mrs. Chatarina Raminah Wongsorejo, and spent his childhood there. He completed his basic and secondary education in Yogyakarta. After graduating from Kolese de Britto High School, he pursued further studies at the Minor Seminary of St. Petrus Canisius in Magelang, as he aspired to be a priest.

Fr. Arko began his Jesuit formation on July 15, 1979, at the Novitiate of St. Stanislaus in Girisonta, and two years later, on July 16, 1981, he made his First Vows. He did his philosophical formation at Driyarkara School of Philosophy in Jakarta from 1981 to 1984. After completing his first studies in philosophy, he made his regency formation at Xavier High School in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, from 1984 to 1986. He later completed his second studies in theology at Wedabhakti Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Yogyakarta from 1986 to 1989. He received diaconal ordination on January 25, 1989, and sacerdotal ordination on July 24, 1989.

His service included roles as the parish priest of various parishes, including St. Robertus Bellarminus in Cililitan, St. Yusup in Baturetno, St. Ignatius in Danan, St. Martinus in Weleri, St. Yusup in Gedangan, and St. Antonius in Muntilan, as well as positions in education at Canisius College, Jakarta, and provincial secretarial services in Semarang. As his health deteriorated, in 2021, he was assigned to reside at Wisma Emmaus for health recovery and to be a prayerful member of the Church and the Society of Jesus until his death.

A Requiem Mass was held at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Girisonta on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Maria Ratu Damai Cemetery in Girisonta, Bergas, Ungaran. All members of the Province are requested to celebrate a special Eucharist for the peace of Fr. Arko’s soul.
